Looking for a professional psychologist you can trust?
My name is Michael Murrell, Psy.D. and I am a clinical psychologist who has been the Director of Murrell Psychological Service since 1987.
I personally struggled with panic attacks and P.T.S.D. (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder). I sought professional mental health and have been symptom free since that time. I can teach you what I have learned personally so that you or your loved one can stop suffering from an anxiety disorder. Whether it is in the form of individual psychotherapy, family counseling or a need for a psychological evaluation, either myself, or one of the other psychologists in our office, can be of help to you.
I am a member of the American Psychological Association, the Missouri Psychological Association, the Society for Christian Psychologists and the American Legion. I am a Level 3 Certified E.M.D.R. (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapist who is also a psychologist in Southwest Missouri. I am a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church where I have been a member since 1988. I was led to practice the profession of clinical psychologist because I felt that I could help those people, who were like myself, highly sensitive individuals who felt overwhelmed by the demands of their environment. Many of my clients are not mentally ill but are in fact very sensitive people who feel they must adapt to an social environment that was not friendly or understanding of who they were. For more information about my work with highly sensitive people, who make up most of my practice, I recommend a couple of excellent books. The first is "The Highly Sensitive Person: How to Thrive When the World Overwhelms You" by Elaine N. Aron, Ph. D. The second book is "Quiet" written by Susan Cain, J.D. Both of these books are written to those people like myself who are basically introverts but must live in a society that doesn't necessarily value or understand quiet, sensitive people.
Our clinic offers professionals whose services include public speaking services, biofeedback, clinical hypnosis, Christian counseling, bariatric evaluations, individual and family counseling, psychological testing and evaluation, panic and anxiety attacks, E.M.D.R. treatment for panic attacks as well as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and treatment specifically for stress management issues.
Many clients call us and aren't sure what they need or what we have to offer. They may need individual counseling initially but also need family counseling to deal with relationship issues. Others may call who are in a crisis state and need to get into to see a psychologist immediately. We do offer quick access to the psychologists in our office when there is a crisis situation. I have been an adjunct faculty staff at Drury University in their Behavioral Science Department since 1992. I have presented regional workshops on treating trauma and worked with returning U.S. military veterans since 2006. Our counseling service is proud to support The Wounded Warrior Project with monthly contributions to provide additional support for our service members both those still on Active Duty and those Retired.
