Click here to read the transcript of Dr. Murrell's presentation on November 7, 2009 entitled: "E.M.D.R. treatment for complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in military and civilian clients". This lecture was given to the Missouri Mental Health Counselors Association at Lake of the Ozarks. Dr. Murrell was honored by his colleagues for his work in the emerging field of trauma psychology.
In May 2011, Dr. Murrell presented to Boone County Family Health Clinic a workshop on managing employee stress and improving their coping skills. The workshop focused on conflict resolution and assertiveness skills to be used by employees as well as their supervisors. He has been a frequent lecturer throughout Missouri for corporations that use United Health Care Insurance company on topics such as "Coping with Change", "Managing Stress and Anxiety", and "How to Resolve Self-Esteem Issues".
On June 1, 2011, Dr. Murrell also was called upon to do a Critical Incident Response intervention in the Joplin, Missouri area after a F-5 tornado hit the center part of that large metropolitan area. He was called on to do immediate crisis counseling with several employees of a number of corporations in the area including Allied Waste Corporation and the Missouri Highway Patrol staff. The damage done by the tornado was estimated to be in the tens of millions of dollars to repair.
The psychological damage done to the survivors and their families will be paid for in emotional terms for many years. Dr. Murrell was onsite to do individual counseling, group counseling, resiliency coaching, and family crisis counseling as well as train the corporate managers in how best to encourage recovery among their employees.
In August 2011, Dr. Murrell was recruited as a consultant by the renowned Professional Massage Training Center, an organization well known for their expertise in Mind-Body Medicine. He will provide year long training to the instructors and staff in personal and professional development.
Dr. Murrell is on staff at Drury University in Springfield, Mo. He will be teaching a course in October, 2011 entitled, "Paranormal Psychology and Developing your Intuition Skills". It is interesting to know that as you become psychologically healthier that your intuition is also greatly enhanced. He began teaching at Drury in 1992 and has been invited to teach online as well as on campus courses there in the Behavioral Sciences department. Psychoeducational opportunities are very important means of improving the quality of the life of the Drury students and others just interested in attending a two day workshop. In October, 2011, Dr. Murrell concluded his series of presentations to Environmental Works in Springfield on employee self-care. He has been a presenter there for United Healthcare for the past two years.
Also in October 2011, Dr. Murrell signed an agreement with QTC, a Lockeed Martin Company, to provide psychological evaluaton for the military personel returning from deployment overseas. He will be evaluating for PTSD as well as Traumatic Brain Injury. QTC is an international company with 11,000 professional consultants stationed all over the work near U.S. military installations. It is an honor to be chosen to do evaluations on the brave men and women who have chosen to defend the United States.
In January 2012, Dr. Murrell contracted with Logistics Health Incorporated to provide services in Springfield for the treatment of PTSD. This involves doing individual disability determination evaluations for soldiers who have been provisionally diagnosed with PTSD or similar trauma related disorder. In addition to providing individual and family counseling the soldiers will be invited to join in group therapy to build supportive relationships among peers who have suffered similar traumatic situations. It is an honor to be chosen to be the provider of psychological services for this well respected organization. This is an international corporation which provides mental health services worldwide for the U.S. military.
